Giving birth is an incredible transformative experience teaching midwives and families alike. Homebirth is a safe satisfying option for women who want to give birth naturally. Given the climate of time-limits, inductions, and labels like “failure to progress,” homebirth offers an alternative that honors a wide range of normal. The midwife’s role is of a guide, offering information and respecting the woman’s and her family’s voices while being a guardian of safety.

Jen is an intern midwife at Mosaic Midwifery where she practices under the supervision of Julie Hughes, senior midwife.  They have been working alongside one another since January 2009.  Jen is a student at National Midwifery Institute, a MEAC accredited academic program since December 2007. She has been to over 150 births including 63 homebirths. Prior to working with Julie, she completed a year and a half apprenticeship under another midwife and occasionally assists other midwives from the community. She regularly attends local midwifery conferences and is certified in Neonatal Resuscitation and Adult, Child and Infant CPR. Before deciding upon the road to midwifery, Jen worked as a Doula privately in Chicago and then as a Doula on-staff at a public hospital for 10 months in Minneapolis. She has a BA in art.
