Why work with an Intern?

Jen weighing Emmett cropWorking with an intern is a significant way to support the continuation of the midwifery model of care and apprenticeship training model of education.  The independent, intuitive and compassionate care provided in homebirths would not exist if communal knowledge was not passed down from woman to woman through apprenticeship.  Working with an intern is working with a student who has significant experience both experientially and academically.  She has met national standards as well as those agreed upon by her senior midwife and local community. Jen is a dedicated, open and energetic learner who is committed to being up-to-date on current emerging perspectives while holding a deep honesty of her limits.  Julie and Jen work together in a healthy partnership as they dialogue about your care.  Choosing Jen to be the primary midwife in care means working with a team.
